Discover Decent Pizza

Walking into Decent Pizza for the first time felt like stumbling onto a neighborhood secret that locals quietly protect. The shop sits right at 1026 N Monroe St, Tallahassee, FL 32303, United States, and it has that lived-in diner vibe where the staff remembers faces and regulars debate slices like sports stats. I stopped in during a busy lunch rush, and within minutes it was clear why the place shows up again and again in local reviews.

The menu keeps things refreshingly focused. You’ll find classic cheese and pepperoni, but also thoughtful options like veggie-loaded pies, house-made sauces, and rotating specials that reflect what’s fresh that week. One of the cooks explained how the dough is cold-fermented for flavor development, a process supported by food science research from institutions like the American Institute of Baking, which notes that longer fermentation improves texture and digestibility. You can taste that difference in every bite-chewy without being tough, crisp at the edges, and never soggy.

On my second visit, I watched the pizza go from stretched dough to bubbling slice in just a few minutes. That open-kitchen setup builds trust, and it matches what the National Restaurant Association highlights as a key driver of customer confidence: transparency in food preparation. The sauce had a balanced acidity, and the cheese blend melted evenly without overpowering the crust. It’s the kind of slice that doesn’t need ranch or extras, though they’re available if that’s your thing.

What really stands out is consistency. A friend who orders weekly swears that even late-night takeout tastes the same as a fresh midday slice. That aligns with many online reviews praising reliable quality and fair pricing. While some diners wish for more locations, the single spot adds to its charm, and the steady foot traffic suggests demand is already strong.

The staff knows the menu inside and out. When I asked about toppings, one server broke down which vegetables are roasted in-house and which meats come from regional suppliers. That level of detail reflects real expertise and mirrors best practices recommended by organizations like ServSafe, which emphasize ingredient knowledge as a cornerstone of food safety and quality service. It also helps diners with dietary preferences feel comfortable ordering.

There are a few limitations worth noting. Seating can be tight during peak hours, and parking along Monroe Street may require a short walk. Still, most customers seem happy to wait, often chatting about their favorite slices or debating whether the best cheese pull in town belongs here. Takeout and quick service help balance the crowds, making it easy to grab dinner without lingering.

Over time, this place has earned its reputation through experience rather than hype. The combination of a well-thought-out menu, a central Tallahassee location, and a steady stream of positive reviews makes it easy to recommend. Every visit reinforces why locals keep coming back, and why newcomers often leave planning their next stop before the box is even empty.

  • Went here a lot before it changed hands, and this was my first time trying it with the new ownership. Service was good and I actually liked the changes to the pizza, the crust was tasty and crispy, the cheese a bit more chewy in a good way. I feel like they used to make ranch in-house, but the ranch we got tonight seemed like hidden valley, which for 0.85 cents a cup is really steep. I also don’t remember the garlic knots being $8, which is also steep compared to the competition in town, so we didn’t try them. But what really disappointed me was the interior. The mismatched super bright overhead lights were the one thing that really ruined the vibe for me, the fact that I had spinning fan blades in front of them throwing shadows constantly everywhere is a sensory overload. I looked back at old photos and the ambient string lights were leaps and bounds better, I understand not wanting to correct the white wall. Maybe it’s a fire hazard or something so they had to remove the string lights, but as it stands I won’t be dining in until the lights change, and I used to love dining in.

  • It was a great Spring Day so I walked over to Decent Pizza and had a slice and some cheese bread. Their Garlic Knots looked good too. It reminded me of a few Pizza Places I use to hang out at in the 1980s including an arcade style video game.

  • Great pizza and great people! Food and service is a 10/10, but atmosphere is about a 7/10. Sometimes it can be a little too loud if you're noise sensitive like we are. Pictured is their cheese bread($8.20), a cheese pizza slice($6.50), and a BBQ chicken slice($8.50). Yes the single slices are massive and so, so delicious!

  • Simple review here: food was good, pizza was yummy, service was kind and the atmosphere was laid back and fun. Overall we got 3 different items. I got a slice of cheese with jalapeños (yes it really is that big), and my friends got a cheese and margarita pizza. My friends are from Italy, and co-signed that this is the most authentic Italian pizza in Tallahassee (in case anyone was wondering). The environment is fun and laid back and you can watch the employees working as it’s relatively open. Overall great time and I’d come back!
